They are frustrating for motorists, but necessary to keep our roads up to scratch and traffic flowing freely once the work is done.

There are long term roadworks ongoing in and around the city, but there are also shorter term ones planned. Here is your definitive list of all the ongoing and upcoming roadworks in the area, as announced by Hull City Council.

A63 - St James Street to Market Place: Major A63 improvement scheme – full infrastructure change. Lane and road closures until completion of scheme, expected Spring 2026.

Amsterdam Road: New connection, two-way signals in place. Until February 7.

Bankside: Gas works, two-way signals in place. February 4 to 10.

Barnes Way: Work on housing development. Multi-way signals in place. February 10 to 21.

Boulevard: Road reconstruction and resurfacing. Road closure in place. February 10 to March 2.

Calvert Lane: Gas works, road closure in place. February 15 to 23.

Chanterlands Avenue: Gas works, multi-way signals in place. Until February 3.

Chapel Lane: Utility works. Road closure in place from the junction of Chapel Lane to the former Hull Lighting Shop. February 3 to 18.

Coleridge Street: Repair burst water main. Road closure in place at the junction of Westcott Street. Until February 4.

Cumberland Street: Resurfacing works. Road closure in place from Swann Street to Barmston Street. February 3 to 9.

Dairycoates Avenue: Connection only due to works on Woodcock Street. Multi-way signals in place. February 3 to 14.

Ellis Street: Level crossing maintenance works, road closure in place. February 11 to 12.

Ferensway: Gas works, lane closure in place. Until February 14.

Goulton Street: Telecoms works, multi-way signals in place. Until February 4.

Green Lane: New connection, multi-way signals in place. February 10 to 14.

Guildhall Road: Public realm works, including paving, surfacing, drainage, retaining walls and ducting within Queens Gardens and along Guildhall Road, Wilberforce Drive and Queens Dock Avenue. Lane closure on Guildhall Road. Until October 31, 2025.

Hall Road: Refurbishment of existing traffic signal assets. Two-way signals in place. February 10 to 13.

High Street: Installing new water supply connection. Multi-way signals in place at the junction of Liberty Lane. February 3 to 14.

High Street: Public realm works. Road closure in place. Works to take place on High Street between junctions with Liberty Lane and Blackfriargate. Until April 27.

Humber Dock Street: Public realm works, road closure in place. Works are to take place on the public right of way along Humber Dock Street between junctions with Blanket Row and Humber Street. February 1 to October 21.

Ilford Road: Constructing new manholes and connecting sewer pipework to allow for the connection of SUDS aqua greens, built off the highway back into the sewer system. Road closure between Worcester Road and Bristol Road. Until April 17.

Junella Close: Gas works, multi-way signals in place. Until February 7.

Park Street: Refurbishment of traffic signal assets. Multi-way signals in place at the junction of Park Street and St Stephens shopping centre. February 3 to 6.

Perth Street: Gas works, road closure in place. Until February 3.

Princes Dock Street: Works are part of the Hull Public Realm development scheme. Road closure in place. February 1 to July 16.

Queens Dock Avenue: Public realm works, Lane closure in place. Until October 31.

Reservoir Road: Telecoms works, two-way signals in place. February 8.

Spring Bank: Telecoms works, lane closure in place. February 4 to 6.

Stanley Street: Highway repair and maintenance works. Multi-way signals in place. February 3 to 23.

Stoneferry Road: Telecoms works, lane closure in place. February 7 to 10.

Summergangs Road: Installation of speed tables, road closure in place. February 10 to March 7.

The Avenue: Road resurfacing. Road closure in place. February 10 to March 6.

Woodcock Street: Gas works, multi-way signals in place. Until February 21.

Worcester Road: Installing new drainage and pipework, road closure in place. Until March 14.

8th Avenue: Repair damaged sewer, road closure in place. Until February 8.
