They are frustrating for motorists, but necessary to keep our roads up to scratch and traffic flowing freely once the work is done.
There are long term roadworks ongoing in and around the city, but there are also shorter term ones planned. Here is your definitive list of all the ongoing and upcoming roadworks in the area, as announced by Hull City Council.
A63 Castle Street: A series of overnight closures for the A63 Castle Street scheme from November 18 until January 31.

Albion Street: Road closure from Jarrett Street to Story Street for Santa’s Arrival Parade, 10.30am to 11.45am only, November 24.
Beverley Road: Gas works near Tesco and DM Keith. Lane closure in place. Until December 20. Also, no right turn onto Mizzen Road, November 24 to December 20.
Carr Lane: Road closure from Queens Dock Avenue to Chariot Street for the Christmas light switch on event. 4pm to 9pm only on November 21.
Clarence Street: Highway repair and maintenance works near the junction of Great Union Street. Lane closure in place. November 20 to 21.
Crowle Street: Due to works on Wyke Street. Multi-way signals in place. Until November 29.
Crowle Street: Gas works at the junction of Wyke Street to outside A Laver & Co. Multi-way signals in place. Until December 4.
Elm Terrace: Carriageway resurfacing. Road closure in place. November 18 to December 6.
Fountain Road: Carriageway resurfacing from Wincolmlee to Main Street. Road closure in place. November 18 to 29.
Gandhi Way: Full length road closure for the Victorian Christmas event. November 23, 8.30am to 5.30pm and November 24, 9.30am to 5pm.
Gillshill Road: Highway repair and maintenance works. Multi-way signals in place. November 18 to 19.
Hall Road: Utility asset works at the junction of Hall Road. Two-way signals in place. November 25.
Haller Street: Utility repair and maintenance works. Road closure in place. November 28 to 29.
Hawthorn Avenue: Due to works on Woodcock Street. Multi-way signals in place. November 25 to December 20.
Henry Boot Way: Utility asset works. Multi-way signals in place. November 26 to December 6.
Hessle Road: Utility asset works outside number 335 and 344. Multi-way signals in place. November 18 to 20.
Holderness Road: Lane closure outside number 654 to locate faulty lighting cable. Until November 20.
Hotham Road South: Road closure for manhole construction. Until December 20.
High Street: New service connection. Road closure from North Walls to Alfred Gelder Street. November 18 to December 13.
High Street: Road closure from Scale Lane to Alfred Gelder Street for the Victorian Christmas event. November 23, 8.30am to 5.30pm and November 24, 9.30am to 5pm.
Inglemire Lane: Utility asset works at the junction of Hall Road. Multi-way signals in place. November 25 to 29.
Jarrett Street: Road closure from Hull New Theatre to Albion Street for Santa’s Arrival Parade. 10.30am to 11.45am only. November 24.
Middlesex Road: Cable diversion works from the junction of Bellfield Avenue to the junction of Saltshouse Road. Road closure in place. November 18 to December 20.
Osborne Street: Road closure at the junction of Waterhouse Lane for the Christmas light switch on event. 15-minute hold only from approximately 6.40pm. November 21.
Paragon Street: Road closure from Queen Victoria Square to Chariot Street for the Christmas light switch on event. November 20-21.
Paragon Street: Road closure from South Street to Queen Victoria Square for Santa’s Arrival Parade. 10.30am to 11.45am only. November 24.
Prospect Street: Road closure from from Story Street to Kind Edward Street for Santa’s Arrival Parade. 10.30am to 11.45am only. November 24.
Poorhouse Lane: Utility asset works at the junction of Preston Road. Multi-way signals in place. November 25 to 29.
Queens Road: New mains cable installation at the junction with Princes Avenue. Road closure in place. Until November 20.
Raich Carter Way: Road closure for routine inspections on Ennerdale Bridge. Overnight only from 7.30pm to 6.30am. November 26 to 29.
South Street: Road closure from Jameson Street to Paragon Street for Santa’s Arrival Parade. 10.30am to 11.45am only. November 24.
Spring Bank West: Walton Street level crossing test. Two-way signals in place between 11pm and 5am only. November 22 to 23.
Spring Bank West: Utility repair and maintenance works outside number 277. Contraflow in place. November 26 to 28.
Story Street: Full length road closure for Santa’s Arrival Parade. 10.30am to 11.45am only. November 24
Wiltshire Road: Routine inspection of Hessle Road flyover. Overnight road closure in place on Wiltshire Road (from the Hessle Road eastbound entrance only to under the flyover) from 7.30pm, Wednesday, November 20 to 6.30am, Thursday November 21.
Woodcock Street: Gas works from 187 Woodcock Street to the side of 248 St George’s Road. Multi-way signals in place. November 25 to December 20.
