Roadworks at a key Dumfries junction will now begin on January 27.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the Tinwald Downs roundabout in Heathhall during the drainage work, which is expected to last 10 weeks.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, had been due to start the work on January 13.

However, the advance warning signs were recently changed to show the work would begin on Monday, January 20.

But Amey has now advised the work has been pushed back another week to January 27.

Temporary traffic lights will be running round the clock from then until Monday, March 31.

An Amey spokesperson said: “All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

“This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the drainage of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.”
