Rob McElhenney's Wife Kaitlin Olson Is 'All in' on Wrexham Soccer but Isn't a 'Crazier Fan Than Him' (Exclusive)
The 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' star spoke to PEOPLE about getting into the U.K. soccer team co-owned by her husband
Through Welcome To Wrexham, it’s well documented that Rob McElhenney lives and breathes the U.K. soccer team he co-owns with Ryan Reynolds. McElhenney’s wife and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia costar, Kaitlin Olson, is every bit as emotionally invested in the Welsh team.
“I wouldn’t say I’m a crazier fan than him but our whole family is very crazy about it,” she told PEOPLE exclusively while visiting Sports Illustrated's Club SI during Formula 1's practice round in Las Vegas on Thursday.
"We love it. We love the players. I mean, that's the thing for me about sports, I have to know who the players are and what their backgrounds are, where they come from to get invested. It's like that with any sport and now that I have that, we're all in,” she continues.
Olson has appeared in the FX docuseries with her husband several times, but she was not at the Racecourse Ground in Wales when the team was promoted to EFL League Two after winning the lower league.
“For me, the moment that was the best was when they won the match that put them up a league, and I couldn't go to that,” Olson says. “And so, I was at home watching him and just taking a million screenshots of his face. He just looked like he couldn't believe it. I thought he was going to cry.”
She adds of McElhenney’s emotional moment: “I don't see that often at all in 15 years of being married, and I'm just so proud of him and so proud of the team and the town and I think it's incredible. I love it.”
In a recent episode of the FX show, Wrexham Advisor to the Board Shaun Harvey told McElhenney and Reynolds that they’ve lost about $12 million since investing in the team. However, the It's Always Sunny is not worried.
“That was always a part of the deal,” McElhenney says now. “We knew that it was going to be an expensive endeavor, but that if we found the right club and the right town that it would be worth the investment.”

During a break in Wrexham’s schedule, McElhenney and Olson are in Sin City for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
“We’re new fans. It started with Netflix’s Drive To Survive,” McElhenney says, referring to the popular docuseries about the international racing organization.
“Also, I've learned a lot from Wrexham,” he continues. “I was not necessarily a massive futbol fan prior to really getting into it about 2020. So in that span of three years, my life has completely changed. Our lives have completely changed, and now we're looking to do that with another sport.”
