Rob 'The Rabbit' Pitts, Star of Netflix's “Tex Mex Motors”, Dies at 45: 'We Will Never Forget Him'

"Don't be sad for me... I accomplished my dream of buying my own store, finishing season 2 of Netflix and marrying the love of my life," Pitts wrote in his final video message to fans

Rob "The Rabbit" Pitts, the star of Netflix's automobile renovation reality series Tex Mex Motors, has died. He was 45.

On Sunday, Aug. 25, the reality star addressed his fans for the final time in a video titled "This Is Goodbye (RIP 7/27/79 - 8/25/24)" on YouTube.

In the comments section, his videographer, Jeff, confirmed the news of his death, revealing that Pitts had been living with stomach cancer and died in hospice care at 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 25. He vowed to "preserve" Pitt's beloved YouTube channel, adding, "He will be missed and we will never forget him!"

In his final words to fans, Pitts acknowledged that some may have wondered what he's been up to and revealed why he had been distant from fans.

"I started feeling 'off' after SEMA [a Las Vegas car show] last year and I was losing weight," he explained in his text-based video. "But I was getting ready to film season 2 of TexMex Motors for Netflix and wanted to be camera ready, so I didn't mind that so much."

Pitts recalled how he would "lose my appetite" and had "more and more acid reflux-like symptoms." He eventually sought out treatment at urgent care and while they tended to his symptoms, they "didn't get to the root of the problem."

Finally, his castmate and "set mom" Jamie took him to the ER, where he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in late March.

"Since then I have been getting treatments at home and it's been rough. More bad days than good, but hanging in there. I have a lot to live for and life has been going my way," Pitts told his fans. "Don't be sad for me... I accomplished my dream of buying my own store, finishing season 2 of Netflix and marrying the love of my life."

After joking how his wife "doesn't mind doing long-term things with a short-term guy," he urged his fans to "ask questions and get answers" if "your body is telling you something is wrong."

"Thank you for listening to my stories over the years. If my stories have impacted you, I would love to hear about it," he concluded, before signing off, "Until next time, -- Rabbit."

Pitts and his co-creator Marcos "Scooter" Carrera starred in Netflix's Tex Mex Motors, which debuted on the streamer in June 2023. The series followed Pitts and Scooter as they scouted vintage cars in Mexico and transported them to their shop in El Paso, Texas for impressive transformations and restorations. Tex Mex Motors began production on a second season earlier this year.

On Instagram, Scooter confirmed the sad news, writing: "It’s with a heavy heart that I write about the passing of my cast member & friend ROB ‘RABBIT’ PITTS. Rest In Peace Brother, I’m going to really miss you!!!❤️🙏🏻💔"

"THANK YOU RABBIT FOR YOUR PARTNERSHIP/CAR ADVICE/FRIENDSHIP/SARCASM/JOKES. REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND!!🥲☹️ TILL WE MEET AGAIN!!" he added in a separate post. "THIS IS NOT GOOD BYE BUT SEE YOU LATER!!! I AM GOING TO MISS YOU, THOUGH!!❤️🥲👍🏻😎"

In the wake of Pitts' death, his family said they've received a ton of support from his loved ones and fans about the reality star's impact.

"Since Robby's passing, the outpouring of support for the family has been incredible. We are not surprised that his stories touched so many - we had no idea of the depth of each connection he made. We wish to thank his friends and fans for keeping these memories alive and showing the impact of the work he did that always came from his heart," they said in a statement to TMZ.

Pitts is survived by his wife, Randi Foraker, and his mother Kim Pitts.
