Robbie Fowler set for showdown with Everton star at flagship golf event as Rory McIlroy eyes win
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler will form an unlikely partnership with Everton star Jordan Pickford at the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am on Wednesday at Wentworth.
Fowler, who plays off a handicap 7.2 will play alongside Pickford, whose handicap is 9.9, and swimmer Tom Dean as part of a star-studded line-up who will test their game on one of England’s finest courses.
The trio pair will play with DP World Tour and PGA Tour Pro Matt Wallace, who won the Omega European Masters last week, at the annual event, which acts as the curtain-raiser for the BMW PGA Championship the following day.

There are some huge names from the golf world taking part, alongside some huge sporting names. Former Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid star Gareth Bale will team up with Rory McIlroy in one of the morning sessions, while recently retired tennis icon Andy Murray also takes part. Southport’s Tommy Fleetwood will be amongst the favourites, with Northern-Irishman McIlroy also eyeing the win.
Fowler and Pickford's group will start on the first hole in the afternoon session at 13:30 and both are avid golfers. The former Reds striker won the Celebrity Series event at the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship back in August 2022.
Toffees' shot stopper Pickford is also a respectable golfer. Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of The Open Invitational last year, he said: "I get to play quite a bit, it's a good release for me. I play with my friends and it's really good for my release.
"Golf is a great game and it's really enjoyable for everyone to be out here. It's worse when you're having to hit a shot in front of people but it's really good."
