Yahoo News Robbie Williams Netflix documentary director on “raw and honest” portrayal
Robbie Williams director Joe Pearlman has spoken about the upcoming Netflix documentary, revealing that it will present a "raw" portrayal of the titular singer.
The one-off special will chart Williams' 30-year career, tracing his origins in boyband Take That and examining his hugely successful solo career, with the documentary including snippets of the singer commenting on archival footage.
In an interview with Radio Times, Pearlman teased the upcoming project, explaining that the intention was to delve deeper into Williams' personality beyond his status as a pop icon.

"This was the type of archive that you're privileged ever to receive, never mind received from someone who's still alive," he said. "So it kind of felt like this enormous opportunity, and we jumped straight in.
"[I wanted to] make something different - [it's] one of the most raw and honest portrayals of a celebrity's life. I think the ability to sit alongside Rob, and Rob going through it and dealing with this, is something I never thought I would be able to do on such a scale.
"It's a really important show. And I think that the fans [will] go into this, and you'll get all the things you love about Rob, and all the music and all the funny and all of that, but also another side to him that maybe you didn't quite understand and a quietness."

The teaser for the four-part series included an interview with the star, who said his early career in boyband Take That was a hectic period.
"When I joined Take That at 16, it was insane. I was the centre of the pop culture world," he said.
"I felt like I was giving more and more of myself away, to the point where you're not somebody you recognise. Being in the spotlight, you can't trust anybody. I was having a nervous-mental breakdown in front of thousands of people."
Robbie Williams premieres on Netflix on November 8.
