David Walliams and Robbie Williams are joining forces for a new stage show.

The duo will join forces for a musical adaptation of the Britain's Got Talent star's acclaimed children's book The Boy in the Dress.

Robbie and his long-time songwriting partner Guy Chambers – the team responsible for tunes from 'Let Me Entertain You' to 'Angels' – have written the music for the show.

The news was officially confirmed via David's Twitter page on Friday morning – and if that wasn't pulse-racing enough, the Royal Shakespeare Company are involved as producers, too, with Greg Doran directing.

Fans spared no time to respond to the Britain's Got Talent judge's announcement, and it's fair to say they're pretty relieved.

Alongside his TV career, David has been a prolific children's writer over the past decade, with bestsellers including 2010's Billionaire Boy, 2011's Gangsta Granny, 2012's Ratburger and 2014's Awful Auntie.

Roald Dahl's legendary illustrator Quentin Blake illustrated The Boy in the Dress, which was David's first book for children. The story was also adapted for the BBC back in 2014, with an all-star cast including Kate Moss, Jennifer Saunders and Meera Syal.

And David's still got more story ideas – only last month, he revealed that he's thinking about making his Britain's Got Talent colleague Simon Cowell the focus of his next book.

"It would be about a young boy called Simon, who likes to judge others," he said.

Hmm... we bet Simon's looking forward to that one...
