Robert Downey Jr. says he wrote some of the fake scenes for Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War has been clamping down on spoilers with absolute brute force.

Anyone with the rare opportunity to see the film early has been told "Thanos demands your silence", while the cast themselves were thrown off the scent with fake scenes and endings included in their scripts, meaning no one was quite sure if anything they'd read was the truth or not.

Paul Bettany, who plays Vision, in particular, complained of losing "24 hours of [his] life reading a script [he] was never going to make" - which may make Robert Downey Jr.'s recent confession somewhat of a shock.

While appearing beside his MCU cohorts on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actor revealed: "I have an admission to make. When we had those long set-ups, I was writing fake scripts... As a good company man, they've indoctrinated me to the point where I was like Manchurian Candidate."

"They said my first, middle and last name and I'd do whatever they wanted."

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo also warned that the internet will be a minefield in the coming days. "If you truly want to avoid all spoilers until you see the film, we recommend you abstain from social media, and the internet in general, until you have an opportunity to get to the theatre,” they urged.

We'll have to see what exactly that entails when it all goes down - the film is released on 26 April.
