Nosferatu director Robert Eggers has confirmed that an extended cut for the film will be released, with the new version including a deleted scene that was present in the movie's trailer.

The gothic horror film, a remake of the 1922 classic, tells the story of Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp) as she becomes the subject of mysterious vampire Count Orlok's (Bill Skarsgård) infatuations.

Following its release in UK cinemas on Wednesday (January 1), Eggers - who has previously directed The Witch, The Lighthouse and The Northman - told Esquire UK that the home release of the film will include an extended cut, with the updated version featuring another haunting scene.

"It's one of those annoying things for film dorks because it's not in the movie," he said in reference to a shot from the spooky trailer. "It's a really cool shot - [I] really liked the shot - but where it was intended, it was ruining some tension to know that [Orlok] was around.

"We needed to keep him more mysterious. But if you would wish to purchase the Blu-ray, it is in the extended version of the film," he continued, with the filmmaker being joined by Willem Dafoe - who plays Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz - and Skarsgård for the interview.

Whilst Eggers has been teasing the extended cut, Aaron Taylor-Johnson - who plays Friedrich Harding - recently spoke exclusively with Digital Spy about the film, explaining that it represented perfect viewing over the festive period.

"I think it's definitely a film that you want to see at Christmas," he said. "Not so the fact that it's in any way themed in that way, but I think the thing about Christmas and holidays is that you definitely want to watch great movies. I think this is one of those beautiful masterpieces that's an experience, so the best thing to put on."
