Roberto Martinez feels fatigue from a long Premier League season will harm both England and Belgium at the World Cup.

Martinez is no stranger to the strains of English football following spells in the top two tiers with Swansea City, Wigan and Everton over nine years before taking the international role in the summer of 2016.

Many of Belgium's top stars ply their trade in the Premier League, 10 of Martinez's currently 28-man squad for this week's friendlies.

England and Belgium will meet on June 28 in Kaliningrad in the third of three Group G games for each team and Martinez is wary of how much impact a lack of a winter break will have of both his and Gareth Southgate's squad.

"I believe playing in the Premier League makes it a tough task for the players to be at their best in these big tournaments," Martinez told reporters.

"There is still individually big question marks over how these players are going to find themselves.

"But as a team, England now have a bit of a different approach. They don't rely on individuals. They rely more on the work that Gareth Southgate and his coaching staff want to introduce."
