Rochester Cathedral will once again be transformed with spectacular lights and beautiful music as part of an awe-inspiring art exhibition. Luxmuralis, the popular collaboration between artist Peter Walker and composer David Harper, will be making a return to the historic Medway landmark between Tuesday, October 1 and Saturday, October 5.

Having recently wowed audiences at Canterbury Cathedral with the Crown and Coronation exhibit, the artistic pairing will now bathe Rochester Cathedral in fascinating artwork displays with their latest project titled ‘Scriptorium: The Illuminated Histories’. Exploring Angelo-Saxon history, the piece uses images from the British Library and Rochester Cathedral to create a multi-sensory experience that ‘promises to captivate the senses and ignite the imagination.’

This marks the fourth time that Luxmuralis has taken to the cathedral, with previous shows proving very popular and tickets selling fast. Each night, slots are available from 6.40pm onwards with some off-peak time slots on offer, and advanced booking is highly encouraged.

The experience involves walking through the atmospheric cathedral and taking in the various different light displays as you go, each lasting around five to eight minutes on a continuous loop. It is estimated that the entire experience takes around 40 to 50 minutes, but guests can take as much time as they need to explore the performances.

Visitors can expect to see spellbinding displays focused around the Anglo-Saxon period, bringing together art and history in an immersive exhibition of colour covering nearly every inch of the cathedral, scored with expertly crafted soundscapes. Guests are advised that the experience includes loud sounds, music and moving and flashing images throughout the experience, as well as bright lights and areas of darkness within the Cathedral.

Tickets cost £10 for adults, £6 for children (under 18s) and £29 for families (two adults and two children), while infants under 3-years-old and carers go free when accompanying a paid ticket. There are reduced rates available for off-peak times and full booking details are available here.
