Two cars formerly owned by some of Britain's greatest stars are heading to auction in March. A 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL, once owned by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, and a 1995 BMW E38 750iL that used to belong to Status Quo's Francis Rossi.

The cars are going under the hammer at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show, under the custodianship of Classic Car Auctions (CCA). Both are described as being in excellent condition – the Mercedes scores 109 out of a possible 135 points, and the BMW an impressive 116.

Barry Gibb owned the Mercedes for over 30 years. During that time, it picked up a scant 59,000 miles. It's been repainted at some point over the last decade, and comes with a partial history file – but has been serviced annually.

The lot listing remarks it has ice-cold air-conditioning, recent new tyres and self-levelling rear suspension – a very expensive option at the time. It's estimated to sell for £12,000-£15,000.

Rossi's BMW was purchased new by the rock star in 1995, and he owned it until 2012. The current owner has spent £11,500 on restoration, as well as a further £1,500 on spare parts – which are supplied with the car.

Fitted with a 5.4-litre V12, it's covered just 69,000 miles, and presents with just one minor blemish on the paint – supposedly caused by Rossi's wife closing the garage door onto the open boot. It's estimated to sell for £7,000 to £9,000.

Both cars will go under the hammer at CCA's auction on March 24-25.
