Remember when Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson got everyone excited when he said he was thinking of running for US President in 2020?
In 2016, he told Yahoo!: "Of course, I would consider [running]. I'm very patriotic about our country, and I care deeply about it... So I think if I felt like I could become a real impactful, tremendous leader, and surround myself with good people, then I'd consider it."
He had previously raised eyebrows by sharing an op-ed post about a potential presidential run.
In a May 2017 GQ cover story, Johnson said he's registered as an independent, and explained what kind of President he would be.
"Personally, I feel that if I were President, poise would be important. Leadership would be important. Taking responsibility for everybody. [If I didn't agree with someone] on something, I wouldn't shut them out. I would actually include them," he said.
And as recently as September 2017, fellow WWE superstar Chris Jericho went on the Rich Eisen Show and talked about on The Rock's growing campaign potential.
"I have no doubt it's going to happen," Jericho said. "I think we're in the era of celebrity Presidents. I think Rock knows how to work a camera better that Trump does, and has much more charisma and is much more likeable. I honestly think The Rock will run for president. I really do."
But now, Johnson is putting that dream to rest. For now. "Unfortunately I don't see it happening in 2020. It's a position that requires years of hard work and experience to learn the skills," he told Vanity Fair. "There's a lot of ground to cover, and due to my schedule, it's not possible in 2020.
He added: "I have so much respect for the position. It's something that I seriously considered. What I need is time to go out and learn."
Johnson made these comments during the premiere of his latest film, Skyscraper, and he has a jam-packed filming schedule coming up, including the filming of The Fast and the Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw.
This comes after Oprah Winfrey said she also doesn't have enough time to run for President, even though Stephen Colbert tried to give her a sign from God.
