Sir Elton John is the latest celebrity to star on CBeebies’ Bedtime Story series.

Following on from the success of Tom Hardy and Dolly Parton, the father-of-two will be reading The Dog Detectives: Lost in London by Fin & Zoa.

Taking a break from preparations for his upcoming Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, the 71-year-old singer said: “Family is really important to me, no less so this year, where they have been supporting me on my Farewell Tour launch and working on the movie Sherlock Gnomes.

“I now get to read a Bedtime Story to families all over the UK on CBeebies. It was a great day and I hope you all enjoy it.”

The Rocket Man singer has been with his partner David Furnish for 25 years and the couple have two sons together, Zachary, seven, and Elijah, five.

Sir Elton is also godfather to ten children, including David and Victoria Beckham’s sons, Brooklyn and Romeo.

Intended to soothe children into a sound sleep, CBeebies Bedtime Stories is also hugely popular with fans of the celebrity guests.

Tom Hardy’s appearance on the show last year was among CBeebies most-watched and proved a huge success with mums who called it the “highlight of Mother’s Day”.

Since the first episode aired in 2009, the show has boasted celebrity appearances from Suranne Jones, David Tennant, Avengers actor Chris Evans, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Damian Lewis.

Sir Elton John’s Bedtime Story will air on CBeebies at 6:50pm on May 3.
