Richard Madden's casting in MCU epic The Eternals has sparked a fantastic reaction from his Rocketman co-star Taron Egerton.

The actors played real-life lovers John Reid and Elton John in Dexter Fletcher's "musical fantasy" film earlier this year, and it's clear the two are pretty close friends outside of work.

Uploading a photo of himself and Madden having a laugh together, Egerton captioned it: "This was the moment we found out my mate had superpowers. Proud. Love you mate. @maddenrichard".

Entertainment Weekly reports that this selfie was possibly taken at May's Met Gala, which suggests the pair had been sitting on this massive news for quite some time.

Egerton's followers soon took to the photo's comments section, with one writing: "LEGENDS SUPPORT LEGENDS" and another simply replying "MY FAVOURITES".

Madden will bring the immortal alien Ikaris to the screen in The Eternals, a being who can levitate by manipulating graviton particles around him.

Similar to Spider-Man: Far From Home's Mysterio, Ikaris can also create mental illusions as a way of disguising himself. As well as this, he holds the ability to rearrange air molecules into something of an impenetrable shield.

Ikaris has many more superpowers in the comics, so it'll be fascinating to see which ones Madden will wield on the big screen.

The Eternals will blast into cinemas on November 6, 2020.
