Rockstar Games Doesn’t Think Much Of Daniel Radcliffe’s ‘Random, Made Up’ Grand Theft Auto Drama

The story behind Grand Theft Auto got the BBC treatment last night, as Daniel Radcliffe starred in The Gamechangers.

The hugely popular and equally controversial videogame were the subject of a docudrama shown on Tuesday, but Rockstar Games, the company behind GTA, doesn’t seem impressed.

Two tweets from Rockstar’s official account blasted the programme, accusing it of being “random, made up bollocks”.

Described by the BBC as a ‘factual drama’, The Gamechangers follows GTA mastermind Sam Houser during 2002 as he and the Rockstar crew battle against Christian lawyer Jack Thompson (played by Bill Paxton).

Thompson does everything he can to subdue the game - which allows players to immerse themselves in murky gangland dealings, hire prostitutes, kill cops and run down pedestrians for fun - because of the negative effect he believes it has on young people.

The BBC concedes that the show “has not been authorised by the producers of Grand Theft Auto” but was instead “based on court documents and interviews with many of those involved in the real events behind this compelling story”.

But Rockstar isn’t happy - aside from last night’s scathing tweets, the company also filed a lawsuit against the BBC in May 2015, claiming that The Gamechangers infringes on its trademark.

One thing’s for sure: Daniel Radcliffe never looked cooler.
