Sir Rod Stewart may be a multi-award winning singer – but he had no time for a chauffeur when he hopped on public transport to his O2 Arena gig.

The 72-year-old singer shunned a private car in favour of the London Underground as he made his way to the iconic venue on Monday night.

It was a case of You Wear It well as Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster went incognito as they dressed in black hooded coats and dark sunglasses to ‘sneak’ into London.

Lancaster, 45, uploaded two Instagram pictures of herself with her husband riding around on the tube network.

One picture shows the pair posing at a train station while a second shows the Downtown Train singer on a central line tube train at Tottenham Court Road station.

Lancaster captioned the shots: “Sneaking into London by train today.”

Monday night marked Stewart’s final performance of his tour in London. It was one of two rearranged gigs after he was struck down with a throat infection in November.

Lancaster recently opened up about her husband’s life on the road and revealed he needs to be showered with attention on returning home.

Talking about Stewart – who was recently honoured with a knighthood – she told the Sunday People: “Rod has always been like my third child and my most demanding boy out of the three. When Rod is always on tour, in hotel rooms, and after the euphoria of a show, with millions of fans screaming ‘I love you’.

“He comes home and then he's just Dad, he’s not Sir Rod Stewart any more. It must be a bump back to earth, so he requires a lot of my attention.”
