Rod Stewart and son plead guilty in Florida battery case

Rod Stewart and his son have pleaded guilty to battery following an altercation with a security guard in 2019.

The incident occurred at a Florida hotel on New year’s Eve 2019.

On Friday (17 December), court records were released showing that the singer and his son, Sean, both entered guilty pleas to misdemeanour charges of simple battery.

“No one was injured in the incident and a jury did not find Sir Rod Stewart guilty of the accusation,” Stewart’s attorney Guy Fronstin said in a statement.

“Instead, Sir Rod Stewart decided to enter a plea to avoid the inconvenience and unnecessary burden on the court and the public that a high profile proceeding would cause.”

This agreement means that Stewart and his son, 41, won’t appear in court over the incident as there will be no trial.

The pair were accused of a physical altercation with security guard Jessie Dixon at the luxury Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach after they were refused entry to a private New Year’s Eve party.

Dixon said that Stewart punched him in the rib cage while his son shoved him. According to Dave Aronberg, a spokesperson for Palm Beach State Attorney, Dixo nis happy with the outcome of the case.

Singer Stewart, 76, is best known for hits, including “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy,” “You’re In My Heart,” “Hot Legs” and “Maggie May.”

He was knighted by the Queen in 2016.
