It’s been a week filled with political uncertainty, Parliamentary squabble and out-of-control fake blood. But here are five positive stories you should know happened this week… that have got nothing to do with Brexit.
1) Woman disguises herself as a bush
A woman has told how she dressed up as a bush in order to capture her sister’s engagement moment.
Posting the pictures on Twitter, Therese Merkel revealed the moment she disguised herself to blend in with the wilderness.
The tweet, which has picked up more than 180,000 likes, shows Merkel’s sister, Rachel, gushing at her fiancee with hands over her mouth.
Ms Merkel accompanied it with images of herself wrapped head to toe in sticks, seemingly unable to walk in a squatted position.
As the post went viral, hundreds of Twitter users left comments commending Ms Merkel for her effort. Others urged their friends to get planning in time for their special moments. The pressure is on!
2) Ocean device collects harmful plastics
A floating device designed to clean up the ocean has collected plastic for the first time.
Dutch inventor Boyan Slat announced his 600-metre-long ocean cleanup system has finally started catching plastic after seven years.
The device free-floats in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, an island of rubbish three times the size of France.
He said: “I am eternally grateful for the team’s commitment and dedication to the mission”
All plastic gathered in the contraption will be brought to shore in December for recycling, and plans to make the system more durable are underway.
3) The hotel built just for women
A hotel in Mallorca has opened its doors to female-only tourists.
Created by women for women, Som Dona Hotel is set to meet demand for the increasing trend of female travellers choosing lone or same-sex holidays.
Owners found that women were also seeking trips that supported healthier lifestyles, and say customers will have “personalised care tailored to their needs”.
Som Dona’s wellness services include a glass-enclosed sunroom, a whirlpool and a ‘flexitarian menu’ with locally sourced food made in a sustainable cuisine.
4) New apps to help young people find jobs
New apps aimed at helping young people find work are to be trailed as part of a £2.8m pound employment initiative.
The scheme, launched by the Department for Work and Pensions, will help disadvantaged young people who require extra support to find work.
The scheme will be tested out in Manchester, and may be rolled out nationally if there is growth in youth employment.
5) Rod Stewart’s surprise for bride and groom
A British couple were treated to a surprise performance from Sir Rod Stewart after their dream wedding was nearly ruined.
Andrew Atichison and Sharon Cook from Liverpool were due to marry at the famous Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas before learning their guests flights had been affected by the Thomas Cook collapse.
After hearing of their troubles, Caesar’s paid for both themselves and their 16 guests to fly to Las Vegas. The couple were gifted first class tickets, then picked up in a limousine and had their accommodation upgraded to penthouse suites.
They had just said "I do" when Rod Stewart showed up singing ‘Have I Told You Lately That I Love You’.
Mr Atichison wrote on Twitter ”Thank you Rod you've absolutely made our dream wedding you absolute legend."
