Rohan Smith insists Leeds Rhinos results can turn under mounting pressure

Leeds Rhinos fans were telling Rohan Smith to get out of their club on Friday night, but he insists that results can be turned around after an underwhelming start to the season.

The Rhinos were well beaten on Friday night as St Helens stormed to a 40-10 victory, which was Leeds' fourth defeat in six games. Despite a heavy recruitment drive in the off-season, that defeat leaves the club outside of the play-offs and without a victory over a team outside of Super League's bottom four clubs in three months.

That has seen discontent grow among the fanbase, with Smith seemingly under increasing pressure having missed out on the play-offs last year. However, he remains confident that, with time, things can improve for the better.

When asked if he felt results could turn, Smith said: “Yes. “We’ve got a group that is still new. We are miles off playing to the ability I think we are capable of.

“There a bunch of new players to the club this year and almost everyone in the club is in their first or second year of having a significant role in the team.

“I’ve taken on the choice as a very young man to chase the coaching dream and every coaching job I’ve had I’ve felt pressure to do my job as best I can. It’s a team sport, we are all involved in it so that stuff makes no difference to me. I feel the same pressure after a win, loss or anywhere in between.”
