Scores of fans were forced to miss the start of the Rolling Stones concert because of a ban on bags larger than an A5-sized piece of paper.

Angry gig-goers said “thousands” of people had to queue for more than an hour to drop off their bags at the London Stadium in Queen Elizabeth Park, Stratford, causing many to miss Liam Gallagher’s support act performance and some opening Stones songs.

A stadium spokesman said it was a “tour-wide policy” and nothing to do with the venue.

He said tickets carried a warning and it had also been emailed twice to buyers.

Promoters AEG said that “the safety of everyone is of the utmost importance.”
