A 66-year-old pedestrian has died after a purple Rolls Royce crashed into him in central London.

The man was fatally injured when the luxury car struck him at Hyde Park Corner in Westminster on Thursday.

He was declared dead after police were called to the scene at 3.14am.

The driver of the £258,000 Rolls Royce Wraith stopped at the scene and was not arrested.

The Metropolitan Police has appealed for witnesses to come forward following the fatal collision.

Dc Chris May, of the Serious Collison Investigation Unit, said: “This is very busy section of road and I am sure there would be a number of people who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it.

"I would ask those people to contact police and in particular anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam footage.

“Your information could be vital in helping us understand the cause of this tragic incident.”
