Hapless would-be bridegroom Marion Neagu popped the question after a glider flight - but wrote out 'Do You Merry Me'.

The Romanian, 30, treated his girlfriend to a propelled glider flight, before unfurling a proposal banner and pulling out an engagement ring as she landed.

But rather than writing 'Will You Marry Me?', a rather apparent language barrier meant that Marion got the message badly wrong.

Marion had revealed the romantic message at the Aerial Club Aerodrome in Vladeni, south-east Romania.

An onlooker at the aerodrome said: 'It was hilarious, no one could believe his terrible spelling but it was too late to change anything. Despite the mistake on the banner, it was a very romantic proposal.'

Speaking after the proposal, Neagu said: 'Luckily my bride-to-be saw the funny side and she said 'yes' straight away, to my great relief. Plus, the ring fitted perfectly, which was much more important.'
