Romeo, the World's Loneliest Frog, Finally Finds His Juliet

The world’s loneliest frog has finally found a mate, thanks to the efforts of the Global Wildlife Conservation (GWC) and scientists at the Museo d’Orbigny Alcide in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

Romeo the Sehuencas water frog hit the headlines in February 2018, after the GWC made a Match.com ad for the bachelor amphibian. Romeo was collected from the Cloud Forest in Bolivia over a decade ago, and was thought to be the last of his kind.

However, after scouring the forests once again, Romeo’s matchmaking team found him the perfect potential mate. They brought the female frog – aptly named Juliet – back to the lab, where she was treated for potentially deadly fungus, and it is hoped that she and Romeo will repopulate their species.
