A Room with a View star Rosemary Leach dies, aged 81

Award-winning stage and screen actress Rosemary Leach has passed away at the age of 81.

The actress, who was best known for her BAFTA-nominated roles in the 1986 film A Room With a View and 1973's That'll Be The Day, died after a short illness on Saturday (October 21).

Leach's agent confirmed the news in a short statement (via The Guardian), which read: "It is with great sadness I must report the news that Rosemary Leach died in hospital yesterday, Saturday 21 October, after a short illness."

Alongside her film roles, Leach was also known for her stage roles, picking up an Olivier Award for Best Actress in a New Play in 1982 for her work on 84 Charing Cross Road.

The actress also made several appearances on television, including the role of Aunt Fenny in 1982's The Jewel in the Crown and, more recently as Grace in the Robert Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker-starring series My Family.

In more recent years, Leach has focused her acting work on one-off appearances on several soaps, including parts in Doctors, Midsomer Murders, Holby City and Casualty.

She also played Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II three times throughout her career, in 2011's The Great Ghost Rescue, 2009's TV movie Margaret and, most memorable, in an episode of 2006's The Afternoon Play.
