Rory McIlroy says he’s feeling good following another impressive round at the Open, carding a second round 69 in testing conditions.

Having played far from his best on Thursday, the 29-year-old did well to position himself at two under going into Friday’s round.

As the weather turned at Carnoustie, McIlroy thrived. Initially leaving a few putts short, his form picked up as he neared the turn and, on the way in, shared the lead for a time before slipping back to four-under.

Compared to Carnoustie opens gone by, conditions this weekend will be tame, with the worst expected to have been and gone, however, McIlroy revealed he did have to adapt his game.

“I am very pleased. I would have taken a second round of two under before going out today.

"The conditions are not too bad, but are bad enough to make you think I had to adopt a very different game plan.

"When these modern drivers get wet there is not too much spin on the ball, so I didn't hit driver very much and I had to play the course the way it is supposed to be played.

"Mentally I am in a good place, I am being very accepting to whatever happens, happens.

"Right now I am feeling good about it."
