Rory McIlroy prize money after agonising second place finish at Irish Open
There was agony for Rory McIlroy at the Irish Open on Sunday, but the Holywood golfer still managed to take home some huge prize money for his performance at Royal County Down.
A second-placed finish netted the Holywood golfer a staggering £503,000, while champion Rasmus Hojgaard bagged an eye-watering £761,934.
Offaly man Shane Lowry finished in a tie for 12th. Solo 12th would have netted him £78,631, but even still he will take home a huge cheque for his week's work.

The prize money will be scant consolation for four-time major winner McIlroy who led by two shots with four holes remaining before being pipped at the death by Hojgaard.
The Dane reeled off three-birdies in a row on the final three holes to shoot 65 and take him to -9. McIlroy bogeyed 15 and 17 but picked up a birdie at 16 and needed an Eagle on 18 to force a play-off.
The County Down native stuck a superb iron shot close on the final hole to give himself a chance but failed to drain a 15-footer for Eagle as he missed out on winning his home championship by a single stroke.
