Rosario Dawson has revealed her Marvel character Claire Temple will not be making an appearance in The Punisher.

The Walking Dead's John Bernthal made his debut as unhinged vigilante Frank Castle/The Punisher in season two of Daredevil and is obviously reprising his role for the solo series.

The show is heading to Netflix in late 2017, but don't expect the return of The Defenders star Rosario Dawson...

During an interview with Collider about her new movie Unforgettable, Rosario revealed she will not be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming series, even though she "really wanted" one.

"At the end of the day, it's really hard to get all of those casts together," she said. "For The Defenders, it was difficult to get everybody together. People are busy!

"There are so many times where I really want it to happen. I really wanted to do a cameo on The Punisher, but it doesn't always work that way."

Filming began on The Punisher on October 3, 2016 in Brooklyn, New York – with early shots coming out of Bernthal showing off a newly unkempt look, and more snaps of the actor in his vigilante costume emerging over the weekend

The series will be produced by Hannibal writer/producer Steve Lightfoot, with a number of TV's biggest names rounding off its cast.

Jason R Moore has been cast as Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Castle and one of the few people who knows he's still alive, while Michael Nathanson and Amber Rose Revah are starring as Homeland Security agents Sam Stein and Dinah Madani, respectively.

Westworld's Ben Barnes also joins the cast as Billy Russo, a private military contractor and Castle's best friend from when he served in Special Forces, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach (the delightful Desi from Girls) will play Micro, a former NSA analyst who assists Castle.

Marvel's The Punisher will drop in late 2017.
