Roseanne Barr breaks down in tears in first interview since being fired: ‘I’ve made myself a hate magnet’

Roseanne Barr broke down in tears after "losing everything" as she spoke out in her first interview since being sacked from her ABC sitcom.

Barr, 65, was fired last month over a racist tweet she posted comparing Barack Obama’s former adviser Valerie Jarrett to the child of the Muslim Brotherhood and a character from Planet of the Apes.

Speaking on Rabbi Shmuley Boteach’s podcast, Barr said she regrets posting the tweet and is “willing to accept whatever consequences this brings”.

She said: “I don’t excuse it. I horribly regret it. I’ve lost everything.”

“I regretted it before I lost everything and I said to God, ‘I am willing to accept whatever consequences this brings, because I know I’ve done wrong. I’m willing to accept what the consequences are.’ And I do. And I have.”

She continued: “They don’t accept my apology or explanation. I’ve made myself a hate magnet and as a Jew it’s just horrible.”

The disgraced comedian previously attempted to defend her comment after the revival of her sitcom Roseanne was cancelled by ABC, by denying any knowledge of Jarrett’s African-American heritage.

Replying to a string of tweets from followers, she wrote: “I honestly thought she was Jewish and Persian-ignorant of me for sure, but...I did.”

Replying to another person, she said: “Yes, I mistakenly thought she was white.”

Barr, who briefly deleted her Twitter account over the backlash, also blamed Ambien sleeping pills for the offensive post.

She wrote: “Guys I did something unforgiveable so do not defend me. It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien tweeting – it was memorial day too – I went 2 far & do not want it defended – it was egregious Indefensible. I made a mistake I wish I hadn't but...don't defend it please.”

The drug manufacturer Sanofi which produces Ambien hit back and said racism was not a known side effect of any of the company’s medication.
