Roseanne blames Sara Gilbert for cancellation: ‘She destroyed the show and my life’

In an extremely unfiltered profile by the Washington Post, Roseanne Barr talked at length about the cancellation of the 2018 revival of Roseanne - and in part blamed her former co-star and TV daughter Sara Gilbert for it.

"She destroyed the show and my life with that tweet," Barr said. "She will never get enough until she consumes my liver with a fine Chianti."

Barr was referring to remarks Gilbert made in response to a series of early-morning tweets in which Barr insulted Valerie Jarrett in terms condemned as racist, and repeated antisemitic slurs about Democratic donor George Soros. Roseanne ultimately deleted the tweets and apologised for them. Gilbert later said on Twitter that the remarks were "abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show.

Half an hour after Gilbert's statement, ABC and Disney announced the cancellation of Roseanne. ABC greenlit a sequel series, The Conners, starring all the main cast minus Barr, shortly after.

As for her current feelings about Barr, Gilbert told The Post: "while I'm extremely disappointed and heartbroken over the dissolution of the original show, she will always be family, and I will always love Roseanne."

Barr's habit of tweeting on controversial topics rattled ABC, Barr's publicist, James Moore, told the Post. But, says the Post, despite extraordinary measures to keep her offline - which at one point included her youngest son hiding her password - Barr continued. "I admit it," she told the Post. "I'm a troll. I'm the queen of the f-ing trolls."
