West Midlands Police has launched an investigation after a 20-year-old man was found dead in a street in Rowley Regis overnight.

The force is treating the death as “suspicious,” but did not reveal the nature of the victim’s injuries.

The young man’s body was found by a member of the public at the end of George Avenue, opposite Blackheath Coronation Social Club, shortly after midnight.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after officers were alerted. Although the 20-year-old has yet to be named, police said his family had been informed.

A cordon remains in place on the cul-de-sac, and door-to-door enquiries in the neighbourhood are continuing.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said the force was treating the death as suspicious, but not as a murder investigation.

“A neighbour knocked on the door and said a body had been found,” Hazel Fitch, 61, told The Express & Star. “It’s terrible. We live just behind and we never heard anything.”

Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield from West Midlands Police CID, said: “At this stage it is unclear how this man came to receive these injuries and we are working tirelessly to establish the tragic circumstances around his death.”

“I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time and saw or heard anything suspicious to get in touch with me personally as soon as they can, quoting log number 46 of November 18.”
