A man has been convicted of manslaughter after fatally stabbing his younger brother following an argument at their mum’s house.

Roy Garmson, 34, had been drinking with his brother Joseph, 31, when they got into a dispute at the property in Lutley Grove, Bartley Green, Birmingham.

He stabbed Joseph with a kitchen knife before fleeing the home at around 8.20pm on 14 September last year.

Father-of-five Joseph was rushed to hospital but died from a stab wound to his leg.

Garmson returned to the property - where he had been staying at the time - at 11pm the same evening and was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He denied murder but was on Friday convicted of manslaughter following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

He will be sentenced on 11 June.

Judge Paul Farrer QC told Garmson: "You have been convicted of manslaughter, the inevitable sentence is a sentence of imprisonment but the nature and duration of that sentence requires further consideration."

Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, from our homicide unit, added: "This is a tragic case which has ripped apart a family.

"Joseph was a father and should have had many more years to look forward to, however these were taken away by his own brother.

"Roy Garmson will not only rightly face a prison sentence, but have to live with the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life."
