It was a very dark night for England on Tuesday (July 11) as the nation came to grips with the reality that football was not coming home after all that hype. Thankfully, we had ITV pundit Roy Keane's glowing face to shine a little light on us.

The legendary Irish footballer was one of the studio pundits anchoring ITV's coverage of the England v Croatia match, which ended in utter disappointment when Gareth Southgate's squad lost in overtime.

Keane was brought on to chat about England's strategy throughout the night, but viewers were a little distracted by, ermmm, well, the bright shade of red that his face had taken on since his last ITV appearance.

"Bloody hell," Coronation Street star Kym Marsh tweeted. "Is it my telly or has Roy Keane turned into Des O'Connor???"

Kym wasn't alone in cracking wise about Roy's very prominent tan, although Digital Spy can neither confirm or deny whether it was "fake" (warning: NSFW tweets below)

When he wasn't testing the ultraviolet capabilities of 4K TV, Roy was generally just being gobby as fellow ITV pundit Ian Wright complained about the heartbreak of football not coming home after all the support from the country.

"You need a reality check," Roy deadpanned. "You should get excited when they get to the finals. It's ridiculous!"

Thanks for making us feel better about the most crushing sports defeat of the last 25 years, Roy. Stay out of the tanning booth, or you'll turn purple...
