  • Royal aides are reportedly stressed about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s upcoming royal tour of South Africa.

  • Sources say there is “no margin for error” on the tour after months of bad press.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are embarking on their royal tour of South Africa in 3, 2, 1, and apparently, everyone organizing it is high-key stressed! Mostly because—despite the fact that they seem like very nice people who are just trying to do their damn best—Meghan and Harry have been dealing with some seriously iffy press lately.

The couple has been slammed repeatedly for taking multiple private-jet flights this summer (to the point where Prince Harry even had to give a public statement about it), was called out for snubbing the queen’s vacation invite to Balmoral, and continues to deal with reports of a “feud” between themselves and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka Prince William and Kate Middleton). In other words, it hasn’t been the easiest summer for Meghan and Harry, and their royal aides know that a *lot* hinges on their tour going smoothly.

According to veteran royal expert Katie Nicholl’s recent Vanity Fair report, Meghan and Harry “hired an American PR firm to help with damage control,” while a source tells her that “they and their aides know this tour has to be a success, and everything has been planned meticulously so there is no margin for error.”

Meanwhile, royal commentator Ingrid Seward tells Nicholl that Archie’s presence could really help: “It’s a small thing, but it could end up being a very big thing in terms of better press coverage. They’ve had a tough run. This is a chance to make it better.”

The couple will also bring two private secretaries with them on tour: their outgoing private secretary, Samantha Cohen, and their new private secretary, Fiona Mcilwham (whose trip they’re paying for privately). “They feel safe with Sam on board and she’s there to help everything go smoothly,” a source says. “Sam has said this is the last job before she leaves the household.”
