Few punters will consider the hard work that goes into rearing a racehorse as they empty their wallets at Ascot this week.

The racecourse will welcome more than 300,000 racegoers across five days as more than 500 horses compete in 30 races.

And ahead of the meeting, the racing industry’s Horse Comes First campaign has provided an insight into the dedication required to produce a winner.

Filmed at the home of William Haggas, who trains racehorses for Her Majesty the Queen, the mini documentary invites the everyday racegoer into the luxury environment enjoyed by some of Royal Ascot's biggest names.

David Sykes, Director of Equine Health and Welfare for the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), said: “Around the country, thousands of people are thinking about their preparations for Royal Ascot.

"We wanted to create a film that shows the diligence and meticulousness of the racing industry and how they care for their horses, not just for the big Festivals, but all year round."
