An unsuspecting couple walked out of St Mary’s Hospital with their newborn baby to claps and cheers from hundreds of well-wishers waiting for news of the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge ’s third baby.

Earlier this morning the Duchess was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, in the “early stages of labour” triggering the world’s media to gather at the doors of the hospital.

As the doors of the hospital were opened, all eyes turned to see the couple emerge into the glare of dozens of camera flashes.

The new mum and dad happily posed for pictures, holding their baby in a carry cot.

As the crowds clapped and cheered, they took a quick snap of the scene themselves before heading back inside the famous hospital doors.

It isn’t the first time a couple were caught in the media glare of a royal baby.

Just after the announcement of the birth of Princess Charlotte, another couple emerged from the Lindo Wing with their newborn baby to be greeted by the worlds media.

The new parents made their way down the stairs but backed up at the request of the gathered photographers and posed for pictures, before heading off with their new baby.

Kensington Palace announced this morning, Monday 23 April, that the Duchess of Cambridge is in labour at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London.

The royal couple are already parents to four-year-old Prince George and two-year-old Princess Charlotte.

The Duchess of Cambridge decided against a home birth and opted to welcome her third child in the private Lindo Wing, where the 36-year-old also gave birth to George on 22 July, 2013 and Charlotte on 2 May, 2015.

The Duchess of Cambridge made her last public appearance before giving birth at church on Easter Day. For the occasion, she wore a Catherine Walker coat dress and a matching Lock & Co hat.
