Latest royal baby news: The best Twitter reactions as new prince receives huge welcome from around the world

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were today settling into life as a family of five after bringing their new baby son home from hospital.

The couple welcomed their third child at around 11am on Monday with the new prince weighing in at 8lb 7oz.

His name has not yet been revealed.

Following the news of the birth, celebrities and royal enthusiasts from around the world shared messages of support, while some tweeted more humorous reactions.

Comedian Ellie Taylor compared the Duchess of Cambridge’s day to her own, writing: “Kate Middleton’s day: 11am - Birth human 4pm - Blow dry and full make up 6pm - Present new heir to media looking red carpet ready.

“My day: 11am - Wake up, eat cheese 4pm - Put bra on 6pm - Take bra off, eat cheese #royalbaby”.

US television host Stephen Colbert tweeted: “Congratulations to the new royal baby! He has his mother's eyes, and his father's hair,” despite the newborn wearing a hat with his eyes closed.

One American royal watcher joked: “Side effects of royal baby day: i feel like i’m jet lagged and travelled across four time zones, but i actually haven’t left my apartment all day”.

Another social media user suggested: “We should continue calling the royal baby "the royal baby" even as he ages. So when he's 45 everyone still refers to him as "Royal Baby." But it only works if we all agree to do it.”

As another woman joked: “Kate Middleton is 36 and just had her third royal baby. I'm 36 and just had an almond I found in my sports bra. Guess we're both living the dream.”

Lots of celebrities tweeted their congratulations to the royal couple, including former US first lady Michelle Obama.

Mrs Obama tweeted: “Barack and I are thrilled to congratulate The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their newest arrival! We hope to meet him soon for a Kensington Palace pajama (sic) party. I’ll wear my robe!”

While actress Elizabeth Banks said: “I love #royalbabies #royalbaby3 congrats to all of us but mostly to the parents and big sibs”.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling added: “Listening to @CNN talking about #royalbaby3 and the reporter said ‘Prince Harry’s route to the throne just became more difficult’ as though it’s an open secret he’s planning to systematically slaughter his closest relatives”.

The royal couple’s third child was taken home to Kensington Palace after making a brief appearance to the public on the steps outside the Lindo Wing yesterday.

Before driving off, Prince William said the couple were very happy before holding up three fingers and joking he had “thrice the worry now”.
