Royal designer Bruce Oldfield blasts Victoria Beckham and Stella McCartney as designers

Bruce Oldfield has laid into Victoria Beckham and Stella McCartney over their credentials as fashion designers.

The famed 67-year-old, known for his couture occasionwear, didn’t hold back when addressing Beckham’s or McCartney’s work ethic (or apparent lack of it).

Not only has Oldfield worked with some of the biggest stars on the planet, he also designed Princess Diana’s wedding dress.

Having worked with a host of world famous names, such as Faye Dunaway, Sienna Miller, Barbra Streisand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Diana Ross, and Rihanna, the Brit designer doesn’t think the former Spice Girl has earned her career or worked hard enough.

According to The Daily Mail, Oldfield had some choice words aimed at both Victoria and Stella when it comes to hard work and achievement.

“It’s a shame those are two names that people go to when they’re talking about celebrating British designers,” he said of the successful women.

But he wasn’t finished with the criticism – not by a long shot.

“There’s Paul Smith, Alexander McQueen, a cab driver’s son rather than a pop star’s daughter or footballer’s wife,” he vented.

“Success means so much more when you’ve worked hard for it,” he went on to say, in what appears to be an unprovoked attack.

To some it may feel like Oldfield has launched a bit of a sexist tirade on both designers who, in their own fields, have made very successful careers off of their respective professions.

Despite the outburst, there’ll be plenty who not only believe he’s entitled to express an opinion but has himself earned it.

Oldfield is in the extremely long list of names eager to design future Royal Meghan Markle’s wedding dress, after her engagement to Prince Harry was announced in November. And apparently he’d be thrilled to undertake the honour.

However, according to Betfair, French designer Erdem is the favourite to create the next Royal wedding dress at 3/1, with Victoria Beckham with an outside shot of 40/1.
