Members of the Royal Family have been attending the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show for as long as we can remember.

From King George V and Queen Mary paying a visit in the 1930s, to a young Princess Elizabeth attending with her parents King George VI and Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, to the Queen attending herself as monarch over her 70-year reign, it's been a long tradition for royals to attend the garden show at the Royal Chelsea Hospital in London.

Several senior members of the Royal Family also attend with the Queen, and the Duchess of Cambridge even curated her own garden in 2019.

As for this year, the Queen has been preparing to celebrate her 70 years on the throne with several events culminating in a four-day weekend of celebrations in honour of her Platinum Jubilee.

As such, the Queen has taken a step back from the public eye to ensure her full health for the celebrations. However, she made a special appearance for the 2022 Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show.

In a surprise visit, the Queen, who turned 96 in April, was driven around the venue at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in a golf buggy.

"Adjustments have been made for the Queen’s comfort," Buckingham Palace said in a statement regarding her use of the buggy, which featured a cup holder and a fridge.

As the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show comes to a close for another year, take a look back at the Royal Family attending the annual garden show over the years.
