The Royal Family's Plan for Christmas 2024 Is Causing Internal Fighting, Step-Sibling Rivalry, and Drama

Halloween is over and I am officially pivoting to the holidays, so consider this a warning to all my loved ones: It's nothing but yule logs and "Jingle Bells" from here on out. But truly no one takes cozy season more seriously than the British royal family, who typically celebrate Christmas together in a fancy castle. But 2024 is shaping up to look a little different than usual thanks to some unprecedented drama brewing amongst the royals. Let's collectively settle in.

The Royals Are Heading to Sandringham

The royal family almost always spends Christmas in Sandringham—at the aforementioned fancy castle in Norfolk, which is almost definitely haunted. Typically, the entire group heads to the estate, including King Charles and his kids (plus their kids), as well as Charles' siblings (Prince Edward, Princess Anne, and Prince Andrew) and their extended families. But, um, this year....

Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Throwing a Rival Party

Apparently, Wills and Kate plan to host a "rival" more "middle class" (quick moment to 😂) Christmas party at their country home in what is being not-at-all-dramatically described as a "coup" against King Charles.

“A little social media of the family eating chocolate and watching TV would be a very effective way of showing how normal Christmas is at Anmer Hall compared to what we hear about at Sandringham,” a former courtier recently told the Daily Beast.

Meanwhile, a friend added that “Kate has always found the presents on Christmas Eve thing weird. It is definitely going to be got rid of when they are officially running things. I imagine it will continue this year at Sandringham in some shape or form but everything is going to be much more relaxed and have a middle-class flavor at Anmer Hall. You can bet your bottom dollar they will be doing proper presents for each other and the kids there on Christmas Day.”

They also noted there's actually “always been a slightly covert, rival Christmas party at [William and Kate's] house, but it’s going to be much more obvious this year. If they post pictures, it’ll be an official coup attempt.”

Wow, extremely seated for this drama.

Kate and William Aren't Here for Royal Christmas Traditions

Part of the reason Kate and William want to skip Christmas in Sandringham and do their own thing? They allegedly think the family's traditions are out of date. As a communications executive who used to work with the royal couple told the Daily Beast, “William and Kate have made an incredibly successful brand out of being normal and boring, but the crazy royal customs at Christmas threaten all that. It’s particularly damaging to their reputation because Christmas is the one time that everybody in the whole country actually pays attention to the royals, and it risks getting overshadowed by stories about these strange, elitist, aristocratic habits. It’s not surprising they want to change the narrative as they prepare to take the throne themselves.”

Prince William Also Refuses to Hang Out With His Stepbrother

Another reason Prince William likely won't be at Christmas? Because Queen Camilla will doubtless invite her children, including Tom Parker-Bowles...

A source told the Daily Beast that “It is best to avoid mentioning Tom around William” and Wills is nervous about Tom’s “rather louche lifestyle as a Mayfair bon vivant.

But the Christmas Walk Is Almost Definitely On

It's unclear who is poised to attend, but the royals rarely miss their annual Christmas morning walk to a local church. It's typically one of the rare occasions the royal kids (Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and Prince George) make public appearances.

The couple hasn't attended royal Christmases in a minute and are still amid the seemingly endless feud with the family. On top of that, Harry has concerns about his family's security in England and is currently in a legal battle over it. That SAID, rumor has it that Harry's uncle, Earl Spencer, has invited the Sussexes to stay for Christmas so there is a chance they could be in England...just not with the royals.

'Kay, on that note gonna go decorate a tree or something.
