Royal honour for Accrington couple after 60 years' service to RNLI

A couple attended a Buckingham Palace Garden Party in recognition of 60 years’ service to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Maureen Hargreaves, 87, of Royds Avenue, Accrington, attended the garden party with her husband Peter, 89.

The RNLI had been invited to the special event to celebrate their 200th anniversary. Prior to the event, Maureen received a 60 years Long Service Medal to go with the badge and brooch for 25 and 50 years’ service.

She has been a committee member of the Accrington branch and minute secretary for many years and a member for 63 years.

The event was Maureen’s second visit to a Royal Garden Party as she attended six years ago with Peter, who was a guest of the Royal Pigeon Racing Association.

The couple, who have been married for 65 years, celebrated their Blue Sapphire Anniversary last year.
