Royal Stoke wants overflow car park with 60-plus spaces
Bosses running Stoke-on-Trent's main hospital want an overflow car park. The land - off Hilton Road, in Hartshill - is already used as an unsurfaced parking area for the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
But plans for the overflow car park submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council suggest more than 60 extra surfaced parking spaces could be created under the proposal.
The application comes just months after the hospital opened a 1,680-space staff multi-storey car park on the former Grindley Hill Court site on Hilton Road.

The Royal Stoke planning application states: "This application seeks approval to turn an unsurfaced car park on the Royal Stoke site into an overflow car park during peak time visiting and also give resilience during pre-planned maintenance of the other car parks. Access to this car park will be created through the existing Springfield Car Park. The site area is currently used as an unsurfaced overspill car park, with an occasional use being a contractor's compound for building works to another location on the site. The site houses a substation and a pedestrian route to Hilton Road, which will both be retained."
Planners are expected to rule on the application within weeks.
