Royal Tour: Prince Will.i.am? The Duke And Duchess of Cambridge Show Off Their DJ Skills

The privately educated Prince William and Kate Middleton learnt a new skill today as they took a lesson in scratching records at a hip hop school.

Kate, 32 looked radiant in a pale pink Alexander McQueen wool suit with pleated skirt and her trusty nude LK Bennet heels adding a touch of class to the hip hop setting.

William, 31 had also dressed up for the occasion, looking dapper in a fitted black suit that he teamed with a crisp white shirt and bold red tie.

The royal couple were showing off their music mixing skills during a visit to a youth project in the Adelaide suburb of Elizabeth, where they arrived this morning after visiting Uluru yesterday.

But neither of them seemed keen to brave the first go, with William saying "It's all yours," to his wife, gesturing her to come forward.

However, coached by DJ Shane Peterer, Kate soon got into the swing of things, laughing and giving a thumbs up as the audience cheered her on.

William then decided to have a go at scratching, but his skills paled in comparison to Kate's, prompting Shane to suggest he shouldn't give up the day job just yet.

“She was fantastic but he can fly a helicopter. So horses for courses,” the DJ said.

The Duke and Duchess spent only two hours in Adelaide, visiting Elizabeth, a suburb in the city's north that was named after Queen Elizabeth II, who visited the area in 1963.

But the couple certainly made an impression on the residents, taking the time to sit and talk with several locals.

One of the lucky few was 23-year-old, Zoe Stone, a volunteer from cancer support group Canteen to meet the duchess.

“I'm shaking after getting that opportunity to meet her,” Zoe admitted.

“I was nervous, but she was very lovely and she was very supportive of the organisation.”

The couple also spoke with a six-year-old girl who is currently in remission from bone cancer, before settling in for a private session with some of the younger residents who talked to the royals about their disadvantaged backgrounds.

And afterwards, the couple were treated to a performance by some of the young musicians and dancers who practice at the centre. Kate later suggested that her husband secretly wanted to get on the floor.

As one of the dancers asked, “Do you reckon I'll be able get him to dance?” Kate cheekily replied, “Secretly, he'd love to try.”

And although William declined the offer, he was a good sport, saying "It would take a few drinks to do that,” before promising that, “he'll do some popping next time.”

The royal couple then ventured outside to see a graffiti display by art group, Aerosol Angels, and William decided to join in, donning a face mask and armed with a can of spray paint to add to the mural.

“He did a pretty good job,” said group leader Simon Burt, “And he admitted when he'd finished his bit of art work that he was now addicted.”

Kate and William then watched a BMX and scooter display. And whilst they were treated to a thrilling display, the couple were also presented with a gift for baby Prince George, his first skateboard decorated with boxing kangaroos and 'George'.

But whilst some of the crowd cheered at William to “have a go on it”, he politely declined and handed the skateboard to a minder.

Probably a smart move.
