Royal Variety Performance 2018: When is it on TV? Who is hosting? Will Lost Voice Guy be performing?

Christmas is fast approaching which means it’s Royal Variety Performance time again.

ITV has the perfect entertainment for a cold, wintery Tuesday night as a whole host of performers take to the stage for the annual charity bash.

Hosted by Greg Davies, the show, which was this year attended by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, featured Britain’s Got Talent winner Lost Voice Guy who won the talent show back in June.

Who is performing at the Royal Variety Performance 2018?

Lost Voice Guy – otherwise known as Lee Ridley - was the first name confirmed for the event when he stormed to victory in the live final of the ITV show earlier this year.

Award-winning band Take That, made up of Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald, will also be performing as they kick off their anniversary celebrations a little bit early with a show-stopping performance.

And Take That aren’t the only musical guests – there will also be appearances from Clean Bandit, George Ezra and Andrea Bocelli with his son Matteo.

Elsewhere, the West End cast of Hamilton and puppeteers Circus 1903 will also be on hand to entertain.

Who is hosting the Royal Variety Performance 2018?

Inbetweeners actor and comedian Greg Davies, who played Mr Gilbert in the popular show, is in charge of proceedings. He follows a long line of presenters including Michael McIntyre, Peter Kay and David Walliams.

What is the Royal Variety Performance for?

The annual concert, which is usually filmed several weeks before transmission, raises money for the Royal Variety Charity. The performance takes place yearly, usually towards the end of the year, and has done since 1912 – making it the longest-running entertainment show of its kind in the world.

The charity itself is dedicated to helping and supporting those who have worked in the industry, providing care for the sick and elderly.

Her Majesty the Queen is a patron of the charity, and Queen Elizabeth II is often represented by members of the royal family if she herself does not attend, or attends with them. This year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended the concert.
