Charity activist Suhani Jalota today said she enjoyed a “special moment” speaking to Meghan Markle on her wedding day.

Ms Jalota, 23, who runs Mumbai-based charity Myna Mahila Foundation, which empowers women in the city’s slums and campaigns against period poverty, attended the chapel ceremony.

She also went to the reception at St George’s Hall, where Sir Elton John performed a mini-concert.

She said: “It was an incredible experience, definitely a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It is surreal in the moment. It feels so normal when you are there, and when you’re out of it, it is like ‘Wow. How did that even happen?’ It was just amazing. It was a really fun time, interacting with some of the celebrities.

“I think the best moment was meeting Meghan. That was definitely really special, because it seemed like she hadn’t really changed. It was great. She was still the same warm person.”

The activist said that the exposure her foundation has received through Meghan has been “incredible”, and the new royal has agreed to continue working with her in future.
