If you think now is the right time to add a new furry member to your family, here are five dogs looking for a forever home at the RSPCA’s Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & District Animal Centre.

We have rounded up a selection of just some of the dogs who are looking for a new home today, from terrier crossbreeds to lurchers.

There are also many more dogs currently waiting to be rehomed which can be found on the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & District Branch website.

You can also support the branch by donating on the website so they can continue to provide essential care to animals in the community.

Bart

Breed: American bully cross

Colour: Tricolour

Age: 1 year (approx)

Bart is looking for an active home, with an enclosed garden where he can play with his toys to his heart’s content. Bart is a big boy and can be a little strong on lead at times but settles on nice quiet walks.

He can be a little unsure on first meeting but once he knows you, he is friendly and affectionate. He is also a quick learner and is learning basic training.

Bart would be happier as the only pet in the household, but he could live with older teenagers or an adult family just because of his bouncy nature.

Bart may need a little help with toilet training once he gets in his new home and will need somebody around most of the time, he will need to build up to being left for longer periods.

Lola

Colour: Tan and white

Breed: Cross bull breed

Age: 10 months

Lola is a big softie who is super affectionate and loves people. She really enjoys playing with the staff at the centre and they have found that she has a goofy and cheeky side.

She is good with children over 12 and those who are used to large bouncy dogs. She has previously lived with a cat so would be fine to do so again. Lola may also be able to live with a confident, steady dog.

Sadly, Lola is frightened of both moving and stationary traffic and for this reason, she can only live in a home away from busy roads as well as access to walks without having to encounter much traffic.

The centre is working very closely with Lola and building her confidence but this is a very slow process and will need to be continued by her adopters.

Lola needs a secure garden in her new home to play in and to help with her house training. She will benefit from new owners who would be willing to continue with her training (new owners may be required to visit her a few times before taking her home).

The branch has an on-site behaviourist who will be able to offer ongoing support to Lola's adopters.

Mary

Breed: Terrier crossbreed

Colour: Tan and white

Age: 16 years (approx)

Mary is loves the company of people and still has the cheeky terrier streak in her occasionally.

She is very sweet and affectionate and likes a walk although she doesn’t need to go far. She enjoys exploring and sniffing around.

Mary would like somebody to be around most of the time and she would like an enclosed garden to potter in. She has spent some time in a foster home and has been housetrained whilst living there.

She would be better suited as the only pet in the household and could live with older secondary school-aged children who have been around dogs that will know when she has had enough.

As Mary is over 10-years-old she can be adopted on the EARS scheme which has lots of benefits for people adopting in the Halifax, Huddersfield and Bradford areas.

Marley

Breed: Lurcher

Colour: Cream

Age: 8 years (approx)

Marley is an affectionate boy and the staff are convinced he is ‘part kangaroo’ as he jumps for joy when he gets excited.

He would suit a fairly active home with somebody who will enjoy taking him on adventures. He can live with older children that are fine with big bouncy dogs and will let him rest when he gets tired.

He would like somebody around most of the day to help with his toilet training.

Marley would also like an enclosed garden that will help him with house training and somewhere he can run around chasing tennis balls.

Due to Marley's breed and desire to chase things he will need a home without small animals and no cats.

He gets excited on walks when he sees other dogs and has got on well with the ones he has met. The centre says they are happy for him to live with other medium to large breed dogs that will be able to keep up with his energy and enjoy his company.

Major

Breed: Crossbreed/unknown crossbreed

Colour: Ginger

Age: 13 years (approx)

Major loves to chase his toys and loves playing with soft teddies. He is an active boy and can occasionally be a little strong on the lead so he will need somebody who can handle him, as well as somebody who wants to take him on walks so he can explore.

He would like an enclosed garden where he can lounge in the sun on warmer days.

Major is said to be house-trained but he may just need a reminder when he goes into his new home after being in kennels.

The RSPCA said he is also happy to travel in a car and would be happy to be left on his own for a few hours as he will entertain himself.

Due to Major's nature, he would be able to live with children (none that are too small) who are used to big bouncy dogs and understand to leave him alone when he needs a rest.

He would be better suited to a home without small animals and he can get a little over-excited with other dogs so would be better suited to a house without any.

Similar to Mary, Major is over 10 years old and is eligible to be adopted by the EARS scheme.
