Rubery stolen car driver locked up over police chase which left three badly hurt
A crazed driver who led police on a chase and left three people seriously injured has been locked up. Max Holmes, 20, was driving a stolen car which was badly damaged and without tax, insurance and an MoT.
But he failed to stop for police and instead sped off. Holmes, of Homemead Grove, Rubery, smashed head-on into a black Mercedes which had just pulled away from traffic lights.
The occupants of the Mercedes, a man and woman in their 60s, were seriously injured along with a woman in her 20s who was a passenger in the Vauxhall Meriva he was driving. A third vehicle, also a black Mercedes, was damaged during the collision, the driver, a man in his 60s, received less serious injuries.

The chase began at Canwick, near Lincoln, just before 9.50am on August 4. Holmes pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and without insurance.
Holmes was sentenced to three years in a young offenders institution and banned from driving for six years and four months at Lincoln Crown Court yesterday, Monday, September 30. Det Sgt Adam Doona, of Lincolnshire Police's serious collision investigation unit, said: "Had Holmes simply stopped his car on the morning of Sunday, August 4, no-one would have been injured, other road users, including our officers, wouldn’t have been faced with a driver who chose to drive dangerously.
“Only our officers who are trained to the highest levels in tactical pursuit and containment tactics, are authorised to take part in pursuits. This was the case on that Sunday morning. The pursuit was authorised and throughout a continuous dynamic risk assessment was carried out.
“There is no doubt other road users were forced to take avoiding action and were shocked by the reckless driving of Holmes.”
