Ruddy Ready For England Duty

England Fly To Euro 2012

England's footballers will report for duty for the first time under Roy Hodgson on Wednesday.

It will be a memorable day not only for Hodgson but also for Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy, who has received his first call-up at the age of 25.

He joins West Ham 'keeper Robert Green in providing back-up for Joe Hart at Euro 2012.

The call came out of the blue for Ruddy, who will miss England's final warm-up match against Belgium next month because he's getting married:

"Being part of my country's squad for a major European championship is a major honour for me and everyone connected with Norwich City.

"It's going to be an exceptional experience and I really can't wait to get started.

"I was very surprised, I received the call on Monday from Ray Clemence informing me that I had been selected.

"It was mixed emotions because I'm due to get married on the second (of June) and it was sort of like, I'm in the England squad for the Euros but I have to cancel my wedding.

"But then they phoned back and said that we didn't have to postpone the wedding and that was a dream come true."
