Firefighters in London have saved Christmas after rescuing a trapped deer on Christmas Eve in east London.

The young deer was stuck in a fence near Collier Row in Romford on Friday morning on a stretch of open land.

A fire engine was called to the Christmas emergency, and firefighters worked for ten minutes to free the small animal. Luckily, the deer was not hurt.

A fire truck from Romford Fire Station attended the scene at 8.16am, and the incident was declared over at 8.28am.

Station Officer James Morley, who was at the scene, said: “Crews used specialist spreading tools to create a hole in the fence and we gently lifted the deer up to free it.

“Thankfully, it wasn’t hurt, although it was a little bit scared. Rumour has it that the deer was seen running towards a man dressed in red sitting on a sleigh in a field.”
